I first heard about CBD oil around a year ago through a friend who was singing its praises. I automatically dismissed it, as I’m the kind of person who likes to feel in control of their mind and had made the assumption that it would somehow take over it. I guess I linked it to the effects that marijuana has in giving you that ‘high’ – Plus, due to going through a bad spell of anxiety and being an over-thinker, I figured that it would only exacerbate those things.
It wasn’t until I came across an article about a lady who took CBD oil every day for her anxiety that I really tuned into it. She mentioned that taking CBD oil had made her feel less anxious, more focused at work and had also helped her fall asleep faster. All these things appealed to me as I was dealing with racing thoughts at the time and needed something to quieten my mind.
I initially searched the web to try and find a natural remedy that could help with my lower back pain and I kept seeing CBD oil pop up. I was glad to find that it can also help alleviate symptoms of anxiety too. This interested me to research it further and ultimately make a purchase. My friend recommended that I’d try the Purephyto CBD+ pure, and after reading great reviews about it, I decided to order it.
Purephyto has a wide range of CBD oils available so I thought I’d also try out the CBD+ relax from the range to help with sleep – Plus the CBD salve lavender to use as a back rub. I’m mainly going to talk about my experiences using the Purephyto CBD+ pure as I have used that the most and feel that I have formed a solid opinion about it.
So first things first… What is CBD oil?
To simply put it, CBD is a chemical compound known as cannabinoids found in the cannabis or marijuana plant. It’s a naturally active strain which can be extracted and mixed with a carrier oil such as hemp seed or coconut – to produce CBD oil.
As you may be aware, for decades, Marijuana has been used all over the world to treat a wide range of illnesses and diseases. As the popularity of using marijuana for medicinal purposes has risen, so has the skepticism of using cannabis-derived products for health. One thing to not be skeptical about is that unlike THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is what makes marijuana psychoactive, CBD is non-intoxicating and does not give you the psychoactive effects that make you feel ‘high’.
According to science, our bodies contain a specialised system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS) – This makes the body produce endocannabinoids – which are neurotransmitters that connect to the inbuilt cannabinoid receptors in your nervous system. These, in turn, impact and regulate memory, sleep, mood, appetite, hormone regulation, and pain and immune response… Fascinating stuff right?
After doing some further digging and reading up on case studies, I was in awe at what else CBD oil is able to treat. No wonder why it has become so popular within the health & wellness world. It not only helps to treat anxiety and chronic pain, but can also alleviate some of the symptoms which are a part of health conditions such as:
Insomnia, Acne, Depression, Stress, Parkinson’s disease, Epilepsy, Autism, Cancer, Multiple Scrosisis, Muscle Spasms… These are only some of the things listed.
My First impressions
Personally, I wanted to give it a go to see if it would help with my anxiety and lower back pain which flares up from time to time. After taking it regularly for 2 months now, here are my views on it 🙂
I was initially unsure about how much to take as there aren’t any recommendations noted, however, after doing some research I thought it’ll be best to start with a quarter of the pipette to see how I would get on with it. You are advised to place the oil under the tongue for the most effective absorption – which is how I used it.
I first took the oil while I was on a lunch break at work. I had been feeling a little overwhelmed and had some symptoms of physical anxiety, so thought it would be the perfect time to try it out. Firstly, I noticed that there isn’t much of a scent or an aftertaste to it. To be honest, it tastes more or less like olive oil if I had to compare it to something.
After about an hour of taking it, I started to feel a lot more relaxed. The tightness in my chest that I had felt, started to disappear. My breathing and heartbeat began to regulate. I wasn’t sure if it was because I was away from work for an hour, or if it was due to the CBD oil. However, as the day progressed, I was pretty sure it was the CBD oil. The rest of my afternoon went by like a breeze and I was able to get on with my work tasks with a clear head. I felt a lot more focused and less distracted with racing thoughts.
I continued to take it regularly for two months and this is what I’ve noticed…
It alleviated my anxiety
As I am prone to overthinking, I can find it difficult to focus when I’m feeling anxious. It helps tremendously with racing thoughts by making me more focused on the tasks at hand. This has been particularly useful when dealing with a multitasking workload at work, or when I’m writing a blog post like I’m doing now:) it helps to keep my mind centered and calm.
I feel that the thing that I’m most impressed by is how quickly it is able to diminish my physical anxiety. When I’m having a particularly bad bout of anxiety, I always feel it in my chest. Once I have taken the CBD oil, it almost immediately makes my chest feel less tight and regulates my heart beat… For that alone, I am blown away!
I get a good night’s sleep
I have to admit that for the first couple of days when I started taking it, I found it difficult to drift to sleep… Strange, I know. Even though it made me feel relaxed and calm, it also gave me a new lease of energy. I can only put it down to my body getting used to it and the fact that I’m also a super light sleeper. As time has gone on, I have noticed that I am able to fall asleep quicker and deeper. I would usually wake up a couple of times during the night, but since taking CBD oil, I get a good night’s rest without waking up so much.
It has helped with back pain
I stated that I ordered the CBD+ relax from the range to help with sleep and the CBD salve lavender to use as a back rub. To be honest, I haven’t needed to use the CBD+ relax that much as I feel that the CBD Plus does everything that I need it to. Although, saying that, I do tend to use the CBD+ relax before I go sleep if I’m going through a particularly bad back flare up. If you suffer from back pain, then you’ll know the struggle of falling asleep when your back is in pain. It does a great job of, quite frankly knocking me out and giving me a decent night’s sleep.
In terms of helping with pain, I feel that it does help me manage it better by making my body feel a lot more relaxed and less sensitive to the pain – Especially when the dreaded time of the month comes around.
I’ve enjoyed using the CBD salve lavender to rub into my back as I LOVE the smell of Lavender, and it melts quickly into my skin, making it easy to use. Do I think it does anything to ease the back pain?… I’m not 100% certain, although I have noticed that my back does feel better and less inflamed after I have used it.
My final thoughts
*Disclaimer* – Before I give my final thoughts, I would just like to say that If you are considering trying CBD oil, then definitely consult with your doctor first. Especially if you have any medical conditions or if you are taking medication. I am just giving you my opinions based on my personal experience.
I started off by taking it every day for around two 2 weeks, and have continued to take it regularly for two months now. I haven’t felt the need to take it every day as I will assess it on how I am feeling and what I am doing. If I have a busy day ahead or, have a social event to go to, then I tend to take it. However, If I plan to chill in my pjs all day and consume all the contents in my fridge then I won’t feel the need to take it. I will without a doubt take it if I am feeling anxious and sense the physical symptoms kick in. It honestly blows my mind on how quickly those anxious feelings and physical symptoms disappear.
Overall, it has done wonders for my anxiety and for that alone, I will continue to take it to see what else it will do. It also feels good to know that I am taking something natural that is derived from a plant and not a prescribed medication full of chemicals. The fact that it is legal, safe, quickly eases my anxiety and has an amazing reputation in treating a multitude of alignments gets a big thumbs up from me. To be honest, the only thing I would say is that I wish I had tried it sooner.
I hope you have enjoyed this post and gained a better understanding of what it is. Please share if you too have tried CBD oil and your experiences in the comments below. I would love to hear about them.
