Nars Radiant Longwear Foundation Review: Does it work for dry skin?

Nars Sheer Glow has been my favourite foundation for years now. Yes, I stray and try out other foundations from time to time, but I’ve found that nothing quite compares. When I heard that Nars was releasing a Radiant, Longwear foundation, I was literally counting down the days to the release date. Anything that contains the words radiance & long-wear immediately grabs my attention as it’s hard to get that balance right. As it was Nars, I had high expectations- There’s no denying that they know what they are doing when it comes to foundation…

What is in the bottle: It is marketed as being a long-wear and a lightweight foundation that provides radiance. It is full coverage, yet still being super natural and breathable… Who doesn’t like the sound of that?

Formula: As opposed to Sheer Glow, the formula is less liquidy and much creamier & thicker. It dries down super quickly so you really need to make sure that you are working with it fast. It has a silicone base that dries down firmly on the skin, without feeling too heavy or greasy- Instead, it provides that lightweight radiance as promised.

Finish:  I must point out that I have fairly dry skin so I will give you my thoughts based on my skin type and which skin-type I personally feel it would best suit:)  Firstly, I must emphasise that a little really does go a long way- When they said that this foundation has high-coverage, they won’t messing around! It has a super opaque pigment which provides an even coverage without looking like I’m wearing a mask. I do advise to apply lightly and build to up gradually- I only need a pump to get a full & even coverage. It covers up any darkness & redness, without making your skin look flat and sets down to a satin finish providing your skin with a natural radiance.

One thing I will point out is that when I wore it when I was having a super dry skin day it didn’t look great- It clung on to all the dry patches that I had and highlighted the texture in my skin which is never a good look. If you have dry skin like mine, then you really need to make sure that your skin is thoroughly exfoliated and hydrated before applying. I also recommend applying an illuminating or smoothing primer beforehand to prevent it from clinging to dry patches.

How it wears: Although I’ve had issues with it clinging on to dry patches, I do find that it feels fairly hydrating, melting seamlessly into the skin as time passes. I have noticed that my natural oils start to come through around six hours of wear, which I feel is pretty darn good! The great thing about this foundation is that I can set it with powder and then reapply throughout the day without it looking powdery. I would say that it lasts a good eight hours without touching it up before it starts to break up. If you are looking for a long-lasting foundation that will take you through from day to night, then this is definitely the one for you!

Final thoughts: Although it ticks the boxes for it is high coverage and long lasting, it just isn’t as dewy as I hoped it would be. Yes, I agree that it provides a radiant finish, however, It would have been more forgiving on my dry skin if it was a little more on the dewy side- Like Sheer Glow. If you have a normal/combination skin, then I feel that you would absolutely love this. I personally don’t think it would sit well with oily skin types due to the radiant finish it provides.

I love the fact that you only need a small amount to get an even and flawless coverage so it is definitely worth the money. I don’t think you will struggle to find your shade as there are 33 shades to choose from ranging from fair through to very deep. It hasn’t taken the crown off my Sheer Glow, but I’ve started mixing the both of them together and the dewiness of Sheer Glow & the coverage and lasting power of Radiant Longwear creates the perfect formula for my skin. Overall, I feel that Nars has done a great job with this foundation due to the dynamic qualities that it holds and the fact that they the foundations does exactly what it says on the tin:)
