In my previous post on How to get yourself motivated when you’re not feeling motivated,‘ I mentioned that I haven’t felt inspired to blog about skincare or makeup for a while now. However, if there is one product which has stood out to me and feel you should all know about is the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (+)

My skin broke out over the past month due to feeling run down, mixed with the dreaded time of the month, so I needed something that would whip it back into shape! Being a skincare junkie has its perks as I was able to rummage through my drawer and pick out the Effaclar Duo. I had bought it a few months ago as I’d heard amazing things about it, plus it was on offer so thought it would be a handy product to have in my collection. I have to say that I’m glad I made the decision as it has been my skin’s saviour!

The La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (+) has been specifically formulated for oily, blemish and acne-prone skin in adults and teenagers. It is a dual action daily gel moisturiser that reduces the appearance of spots and blackheads, controls shine and helps protect the skin from the causes of red and brown coloured marks that are often left by spots. It hydrates skin for 24 hours and is suitable for even sensitive skin.

Niacinamide helps to visibly reduce the appearance of spots. Lipo Hydroxy Acid & Salicylic Acid work to unclog blocked pores. Zinc PCA controls sebum to mattify skin and control shine. Procerad helps to reduce the appearance of coloured marks. Glycerin keeps skin hydrated throughout the day.

Effaclar has been through rigorous dermatological testing to ensure it is suitable for use on even the most sensitive skin- 9/10 dermatologists would recommend La Roche-Posay Effaclar for oily, spot-prone skin.

The minimalist formula contains no preservatives, no parabens, no soap, no colourants and no lanolin. It is hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic (won’t block pores).

To provide you with some background information about my skin, I have fairly dry and sensitive skin type. When I do get a breakout, it’s usually around the hormonal area of my face. It will normally be a few spots that tend to heal relatively fast but, will leave annoying marks that take their sweet time to go away.

I usually stay away from ingredients such as Salicylic Acid because of my dry skin, however, because I saw that it also contained Glycerin which is a great hydrating ingredient, I knew that I’ll be good. I have experienced some flakiness, but personally, that is something I don’t mind seeing as I know that it’s a sign that my skin is healing and new skin forming. Besides, once I apply my La Roche-Posay Hydreane Riche, the dryness automatically disappears.

The fact that it has been dermatologically approved for sensitive skin and is formulated with minimal hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic ingredients brings joy to my heart. I’ve had issues with spot fighting treatments reacting badly to my sensitive skin in the past, but thankfully I have had no issues whatsoever with this product. One thing I will say is that If you have reactive skin like mine, then I would recommend that you use it once a day instead of the recommended twice.

So I’ve been using the Effaclar Duo religiously every day for just over two weeks now and I have seen a huge difference in the appearance of my skin. For the first few days, I noticed that it brought all my blemishes to the surface so the concept of it gets worse before it get’s better definitely applies. That never put me off and I persevered with using it in the morning after I had cleansed my face as I had a feeling it would get better.

After about a week, I noticed that my initial breakouts were fading away and I saw that my skin started to flake slightly where the new skin was forming. After about a week and a half of usage, I stopped getting new breakouts and my pores appeared noticeably smaller.  It has been just over two weeks now and my skin is almost back to normal, looks radiant and feels incredibly smooth. This cream is like a facial in a tube and if it has transformed my skin in the space of two weeks, then I’m excited to see what else it can do.

I would 100% recommend this product if you have stubborn blemishes, enlarged pores, or acne and feel this will be suitable for all skin types too! Have you tried the La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo (+) yet?  xx
